Assessing Content Area Learning

Slowly, I am finding the information that I need to integrate technology into the classroom. My last post, I had difficulty downloading a digital technology tool on my tablet android. I contacted the author and still trying to fix the problem. In the meanwhile I was able to find another digital web-based learning resource called “learning objects.” “Learning objects is a way to offer many styles and students can pace their learning” (www. Wisc-online.com/Listobjects.aspx.).  I tried this website out today in class and the class loved it.

The students can email their answers to their instructors. I was looking for additional assistance in postpartum for my students. There were various content that related to postpartum such as newborn and postpartum care utilizing the nursing process. My action will be to modify and incorporate additional digital tools including newborn baby jeopardy. It all goes back to set goals, take action, monitor progress, and evaluate.

I have learned that assessment can support student learning (Cennamo, Ross & Ertmer). I will need to find the right evaluative tool to assess learning. In addition I need to provide on-going feedback on their progress and how they are achieving their learning goals.

  1. Dear Susan-

I also run into problems like this where it seems as if technology is more work that it is worth. My husband is always telling me to have patience and just 'figure it out'. I guess I am wired differently where I do not want to 'figure it out' I would rather have someone show me. Much like new things in this program and class we were not shown we had to 'figure it out'. I have been doing this and was able to 'figure things out', however if I had some assistance and didn't have to do it on my own I think I would do better.
I commend you on contacting the author to get assistance and not just giving up. I guess this is another thing that scares me is when I use technology more in my class and we encounter problems that I can't answer or help with where does that leave my students?

  2. Thanks Nicole for your remarks. It is frustrating but we as educator have a job to do for our students. I have a quote that I used daily at work. It goes like this: Nothing is worth having if you do not work hard for it. I work hard for my students to help them to understand concepts.
